Hi!

I've just started my A+ certification with you guys, I'm quite new to computers and I just wanted to ask what is a better entry level certification - The MCDST or the A+?

Thanks :D

Hi SPIDER,

Thanks for your question and welcome aboard. The A+ is recommended for people who have acquired approximately 500 hours of hands on experience. If you haven’t already got this, we can help you achieve this with the help of some practical labs.

The A+ certification is a good foundation to build upon. It teaches you the basic fundamentals of troubleshooting, upgrading, hardware, networking, operational procedures and security. The A+ certification is more about how the hardware works as opposed to how it is actually used.

The MCDST certification is more about configuring, installing and troubleshooting applications that run on the hardware. The MCDST is a very good certification to have. In short, to answer your question as to which is a better entry level certification; I would say this is dependent on your current level of knowledge and expertise. If you have very little experience in IT as you mentioned, I would recommend the A+ certification, if you have sound knowledge in IT and have acquired enough experience then I would suggest the MCDST. You can expect to be dealing with break and fixes with the A+, with helpdesk and user support for the MCDST with regards to careers.

hope this helps,
